HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 30
(By Mr. Speaker, Mr. Kiss, and all other Members of
the House of Delegates)
Designating March 2, 2006, as "Mine Rescue Teams Day" recognizing
mine rescue teams of West Virginia for risking their lives to
save miners during times of extreme danger.
Whereas, These volunteers are the heroes of West Virginia's
coal industry and are the most dedicated, well-trained rescue
professionals in the world, and take great pride in their skills;
and
Whereas, More than 30 mine rescue teams exist in West Virginia,
with team members that have learned techniques for entering mines
following mine emergencies, and have received in-depth training
with regard to mine maps and ventilation procedures and the uses of
auxiliary mine rescue equipment; and
Whereas, Mine rescue team members wear basic equipment that
weighs approximately 50 pounds, carrying additional equipment such
as testers to detect gases and conditions that could endanger
miners; and
Whereas, Mine rescue team members report faithfully when the
possibility of dangerous situations exist, are willing to perform duties fearlessly under extreme urgency, and willing to venture
carefully, yet boldly, into dangerous situations in order to save
the lives of others; and
Whereas, Several West Virginia mine rescue teams have won top
national awards for the ability to perform their jobs; therefore,
be it
Resolved by the House of Delegates:
That the House of Delegates hereby declares March 2, 2006, as
"Mine Rescue Teams Day"; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the House of Delegates hereby
recognizes the outstanding service and dedication of the mine
rescue team members for their tireless commitment and relentless
effort; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates
forward a certified copy of this resolution to each member of the
more than thirty mine rescue teams.
